Ingredients:

  • 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tsp fresh orange zest
  • 1 whole cinnamon stick
  • 1 pinch sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the 12 oz cranberries. Note: Discard any berries that are soft or shriveled.
  2. Combine the 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, and 1/2 cup orange juice in a medium saucepan.
  3. Dissolve the sugar over medium heat until the liquid is clear and bubbling slightly.
  4. Add the cranberries, 1 tsp orange zest, 1 whole cinnamon stick, and a pinch of sea salt.
  5. Simmer the mixture until you hear the berries start to pop and shatter.
  6. Stir occasionally to ensure the sugar doesn't stick to the bottom.
  7. Cook for about 10 minutes until the sauce has thickened and looks glossy.
  8. Remove the pot from the heat. Note: The sauce will thicken significantly as it cools.
  9. Discard the cinnamon stick before serving.
  10. Cool completely at room temperature before moving to the fridge.
