Ingredients:

  • 2 large (approx 1 lb / 450g) Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, cored and sliced into ¼ inch wedges
  • 2 tbsp (28g) unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup (50g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp (2g) ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp (3g) cornstarch
  • 1 pinch (0.5g) salt

Instructions:

  1. Peel the apples (optional) and slice them into uniform ¼ inch wedges. Toss the slices with lemon juice in a bowl to prevent oxidation and balance the sugar.
  2. Melt the butter in a 12-inch non-stick skillet over medium-high heat until it begins to foam. Add the apple slices in a single layer and cook for 3–5 minutes without stirring too often, until the edges look golden.
  3. Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt over the apples and stir gently to coat.
  4. Mix the cornstarch with a teaspoon of water in a small bowl to create a slurry. Pour the slurry over the apples and stir for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens into a glossy syrup.
