Instructions:

  1. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt directly in a 12-ounce microwave-safe ceramic mug, ensuring no large cocoa clumps remain.
  2. Stir in the milk, oil, and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and glossy.
  3. Drop the chocolate chips into the center of the batter without stirring them in.
  4. Cook on high in the microwave for 60 to 75 seconds until the edges look set but the center remains slightly moist.
  5. Let the cake sit for 1 minute to allow the residual heat to finish setting the center.
