Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground beef (90/10)
- 1 cup yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp fine sea salt
- 0.5 tsp cracked black pepper
- 0.5 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 cup biscuit mix (such as Bisquick)
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1.5 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch glass or ceramic pie plate.
- Sauté the beef and onion in a large skillet over medium high heat for about 8 minutes. Cook until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent.
- Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Drain the excess fat from the skillet carefully.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly into the bottom of your prepared pie plate.
- Layer the shredded cheese directly over the warm beef.
- Whisk the biscuit mix, milk, and eggs in a medium bowl until just combined. The batter should smell slightly sweet and yeasty.
- Pour the batter over the cheese and beef.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the center rack. Watch for the top to turn golden brown and firm.
- Test with a knife by inserting it into the center; it should come out clean. Let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing to allow the structure to set.
